Lot 69: Leopold Morice, French (1846-1920) A chryselephantine figure of the Virgin and Child

on an integral square base signed Morice, above a Pakistani Onyx plinth, 21cm high

Morice studied under Jouffroy and made his debut at the Salon in 1870. He exhibited regularly there over the next thirty years as well as at the Exposition Universelle. He is most famous for his monument in the Place de la République, Paris for which he won the Legion d'honneur in 1883.
