LE THI LUU 1911-1988 CHILDREN PICKING FLOWERS measurements 25.5 by 21.5 in. alternate measurements 64.8 by 54.6 cm. signed Lethiluu and dated 66 (lower right) mixed media on silk Condition Note: Silk is laid down on board which is attached to thicker backing board on all four corners. In good condition aside from surface dirt. Silk slightly warped. Approx. 1-inch horizontal scratch upper left corner. Approx. 1 inch horizontal crease to backing board apparent through silk, center right. Possible foxing center left. Overall spots from possible water damage. Le Thi Luu is considered one of the most important Vietnamese women artists. She entered the Fine Arts School of Indochina in 1936, shortly after it was established in Hanoi by Victor Tardieu. Among her fellow students were Le Pho and Vu Cao Dam and they were considered the premier group of first generation artists. Le Thi Luu travelled to Paris in 1940 and was unable to return to Vietnam because of the war. She and her husband lived in Guinea for several years, and returned to France in 1953, where she remained for the rest of her life.
