Description

Laszlo Gyulay (Bekesgyula 1843-1911 Budapest) Gypsy in the Pußta, signed Gyulay L., oil on panel, 31 x 54 cm, framed, (Rei) Laszlo Gyulay Pupil at the Academies of Vienna, Nuremberg and Munich, together with M. Munkaczy. In 1873 he returned to Hungary and worked firstly as a portrait painter in Arad, then from 1874 in Schemnitz, and from 1880 in Budapest. A regular exhibitor in the Kunsthalle and the National Salon in Budapest in 1896, as well being awarded a medal at the Paris World Exhibition in 1900, Gyulay painted numerous landscapes and local folk scenes as well as portraits.
