Large Portrait of a Young Beauty with Bonnet in the manner of Thomas Beach. Unsigned. In gilt frame with brass name plaque. Relined. In frame 55"x43"x3". Weight approximately 25 pds. Thomas Beach was born in Milton Abbas, Dorchester in 1738. During the years 1760-1762 he was a student of Joshua Reynolds. He was a member of the Society of Artists and later settled at the resort of Bath where he was much in demand for his portraits. PROVENANCE: Edwin Moore Brogdon, PhD, collection. Dr. Brogdon was the owner of Brogdon Manor, a stately plantation home, located in the Brogdon Community, near Sumter, SC. The home was built in 1898 by his grandfather William Turner Brogdon. The Brogdon community was comprised of a local country store, cotton gin, sawmill and dairy.
