Born near Turbeville, South Carolina in 1919, Anne Richardson became a specialized painter of birds and received attention from collectors including Presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan. Anne Worsham Richardson was South Carolina's official painter of the State Bird and Flower "Carolina Wren and Yellow Jessamine" and the State Butterfly "Yellow Swallow-tailed with Wild Azalea". She was the first woman painter to receive the "Art Print of the Year" award. She was inducted into the S.C. Hall of Fame in 1991. She was a member of the Carolina Art Association, Charleston Artist Guild, Guild of South Carolina Artists, Charleston Natural History Society, National Audubon Society and Carolina Bird Club. She was also a frequent lecturer. Married to Johannes Peter Paszek, she lived on an estate on James Island near Charleston. where they created a bird sanctuary. The Paszeks operated a bird sanctuary at their James Island home to rehabilitate injured birds. As the birds were recovering, she used them as models. Always willing to share her love and knowledge of birds, she welcomed many visitors and school children to visit the sanctuary She was honored by the U.S. Department of the Interior for her conservation work.
