Lara Almárcegui is a Spanish artist based in Rotterdam. She studied Fine Arts at the Universidad de Cuenca (1991-1995) and at Ateliers 63, Amsterdam (1996-1998). Her work tends to focus on neglected or undefined spaces within urban environments, which she researches, preserves, and documents through photos, text, and publications. Almarcegui has had solo exhibitions at Malaga Centre of Contemporary Art, Malaga (2007); FRAC Bourgogne, Dijon (2004); INDEX, Stockholm (2003); and Sala Rekalde, Bilbao (2008). Recent group exhibitions include Offentlig handling (Public Act), Lunds Konsthal, Lund (2005); Project Rotterdam, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam (2005); Momentum, Nordic Festival of Contemporary Art, Moss (2006); The 27th São Paulo Biennial, São Paulo (2006); the 2nd Seville Biennial, Seville (2006), the Sharjah Biennial (2007); the Liverpool Biennial (2004); the Gwangju Biennial (2008); and the Taipei Biennial (2008). Her work is part of various collections including the Kroller Muller Museum in Otterlo, FRAC Piemonte in Vercelli, MUSAC in Leon and Les Abattoir in Toulouse.
