Notes

Bi Jian (1781-1861), who was also known as Zhongbai, was from Yanghu (Changzhou). He was said to use simple ink strokes in landscapes in a stylistical manner and excelled at large paintings.. He was also noted for his xieyi paintings of flowers and poetic scenes. His calligraphy was elegant and beautiful.
