Signed, dated and inscribed ‘Kurt Weinhold-Calw 1935’ as well as titled ‘Felsorgel an Ischia (bei Mondschein)’ [Rock face in Ischia (at moonlight)] in pencil
Sheet dimensions: 53 x 72 cm
Provenance: Private collection, Germany
Weinhold created the present drawing during a scholarship in Italy from 1935 to 1936

Condition:
The sheet is discolored and soiled somewhat and shows tiny mounting holes. The reverse bears traces from a former mounting.

Kurt Weinhold (1896-1965)
Born in Berlin, Kurt Weinhold was the son of the painter Carl Weinhold, who trained him in painting. In 1911, the family moved to Munich, which was followed by Weinhold’s moving to Baden-Württemberg in 1922. In 1934 he was awarded the Rome Prize of the Prussian Academy of Arts and stayed for a year in Rome and Florence. In 1937 he exhibited at the Große Deutsche Kunstausstellung. Whereas Weinhold’s early works were influenced by realism, his later works feature a tendency towards figurative abstraction and surrealism beginning in the late 1940s. (cko)
