Description

KUBA Ludvik (16. 4. 1863 Podebrady - 30. 11. 1956 Prague) Portrait of a man Pencil on paper, 19 x 14,5 cm, mounted and framed, glazed, dated 1899, signed lower right. Czech painter, musician and writer, he studied under M. Pirner at the Prague Academy of Arts and at the Academy Julien in Paris. In 1945 he was appointed professor at the Prague Academy. His work reflects his interest in ethnographical themes. Throughout his life he was concerned with the culture and history of the Slavs and he collected Slavonic folk songs. Apart from folk motifs he painted portraits and Realist paintings stamped with the influence of Impressionism. See T 1/577, 2/771, TD 109, 223, V 3/129, TB 22/31, B 6/325, NECVU 1/415.
