Hanging scroll, ink and light color on silk; depicting the animal with mouth open to roar, his powerful body crouched on a bluff, poised ready to leap forward; signed Echizen kami no Gantai with seals Gantai, Kunchin and another, dated tsuninoe inu (1898).

Gantai is a son of Ganku (1749-1838), who established the Kishi school in Kyoto. Like his father, Gantai was renowned for paintings of lively animals, especially tigers.
