Neige, or House by the River
Signed and dated "Ebihara 1927" l.l., inscribed "...Ebihara...owner/Mrs. Sterner..."
and identified on a label from Lawrence Rill Schumann Art Foundation, Boston, on the reverse, with a label from Lucien Lefebvre-Foinet affixed to the stretcher.
Oil on canvas, 25 1/2 x 36 1/4 in. (63.5 x 92.1 cm), framed.
Condition: Craquelure, losses, gentle lifting, subtle varnish inconsistencies, surface grime.
Provenance: Ex-collection of Mrs. Marie Sterner Lintott, New York; ex-collection of Mr. Lawrence Rill Schumann, Boston; private collection, Florida.
N.B. Ebihara was a member of the Ecole de Paris, a loose affiliation of native and expatriate artists working in Paris from the 1920's to the 1950's. The present work was one of approximately 300 paintings assembled by Mrs. Lintott, the founder of the Art Patrons of America and wife to artists Albert Sterner and Edward Lintott, that became the basis for the Lawrence Rill Schumann Art Foundation.
