KEN DOMON Hiroshima . Tokyo: Kenkosha, 1958. 4° (347 x 255mm). 1 colour and 164 black and white photographs. Original black cloth, spine and front cover blocked in white, original photo-illustrated dust-jacket, original white printed cardboard slipcase (dust-jacket with a short tear, a small chip and light wear at the extremities, slipcase with light soiling). FIRST EDITION. A VERY GOOD COPY INSCRIBED BY DOMON WITH A HAIKU. The haiku expresses the wish that Hiroshima's young victims might enjoy the evening song of cicadas in the world beyond. One of 'photography's most significant memorials to the defining event in twentieth-century Japanese history... the events are recorded in a careful and respectful way, as if the act of making the book could somehow begin the process of reconciliation and healing' ( The Photobook ).
