Notes

The present work, Midday Party, is an iconic example of Keiichi Tanaami's instantly recognizable brand of Japanese psychedelia. Having been deeply affected by hallucinations he experienced as a result of an illness, Tanaami's work incorporates obsessive motifs gleaned from his personal life - garishly colorful women, goldfish, pine trees, waves and cranes ? resulting in alluring and outrageous works which have had considerable influence on Japan's young contemporary artists as well as on contemporary Japanese animation, illustration, editorial design and fashion.

This work is accompanied by a portfolio of press clippings which reference the Daydream exhibition and which illustrate the present work.
