MacDonald and Arthur Lismer at the Ontario College of Art, followed by subsequent studies in Paris and New York. On her return to Canada in 1930, she began to paint the Canadian landscape with vigorous, fresh colour and light, first at Lake Superior, and then in Charlevoix County in Quebec, where she built a log studio in the Laurentians. It is interesting to note that this work is inscribed with the Group of Seven Studio Building address. "
