Lot 130: KATHLEEN BROWNE (New Zealand, 1905-2007)

KATHLEEN BROWNE (New Zealand, 1905-2007) 'Bexhill-on-Sea', signed lower right and titled verso, oils on canvas laid on board, 9 3/4" x 14" Kathleen Browne married Kratochwil in 1961, and she was a prodigious artist in her own right. During the war she took up teaching posts at a number of schools, including Royal Holloway College as well as working for the BBC. She ran Chelsea art school alongside Marian during the 1960s and 1970s and among her pupils was a young Joan Collins. Browne's work can be found in a number of collections around the world including the National Portrait Gallery in London.
