In the early 1940s, Kathleen Blackshear's art became increasingly abstract, but it retained the bright palette of her Regionalist paintings as in this watercolor. The forms in these abstract works often came from nature or Blackshear's fascination with Asian or African Art.

This lot is accompanied with a letter from the estate of Kathleen Blackshear.
