Known as one of Hungary's foremost photojournalists, Karoly Escher started his long career at the age of twelve. Unlike his contemporaries such as Kertész and Munkacsi, Escher remained in Hungary and decided to make name for himself in his homeland. He prided himself in taking ' honest' pictures, refusing to use a flash and sought to document truth in his work.
