Notes

In 1945, Karl Weschke came to England as a prisoner of war, and by 1948 was released from POW status. Weschke chose to continue living in England and settled in Cape Cornwall, a small headland that is, after Land's End, the most westerly point of mainland England. His paintings, with their earthy and sparing palette, convey the exposed and rugged landscape where he would remain for the rest of his life.
