Item Overview

Description

Karl Gottfried Traugott Faber (Dresden 1786-1863) In the Pump Room, signed and dated T. Faber pix 1822, old title verso "Dr. Struves Trinkhalle" also a label; "Collection of Georg Schäfer, Schweinfurt", Oil on canvas, 41 x 60 cm, framed, (Rei) Karl Gottfried Traugott Faber: He learned drawing at the Dresden Academy under Fechhelm, then from 1804 was taught landscape painting by J. C. Klengel, in whose studio he remained for over ten years. In 1820 he was made a member of the Dresden Academy. Faber painted colourful landscapes from Saxony - in particular the region around Dresden - and the neighbouring regions, as well as from imagination. The so-called 'Painting Chronicle' of the Saxon Art Academy bought many of his paintings, and he produced for them various etchings after Grolig, Häbler, O. Wagner and others, as well as a number of exhibitions. In 1815-34 he gave drawing tuition at the Freimaurer Institute in Dresden. Amongst his students, K. Fr. Häbler and F. von Rayski are the better-known. Pain tings by Faber can be found today in the Dresden Art Gallery, in the Castles of Pillnitz and in Schleißheim near Munich.
