Justus DaLee, American folk artist, born October 1, 1793 in Pittstown, Washington County, New York, died January 5, 1878 in Eden, Wisconsin. Justus DaLee and his wife had ten children in Eden, Wisconsin. He was a musician in the War of 1812. His twenty-one year artistic career included painting family records and portrait miniatures in which he advertised himself as the 'Side Portrait Painter.'

A pair of similar half-length oval portraits in profile show a similar wooden chair crestrail within an integral painted mat, were offered at Sotheby's, New York, January 22, 2005, lot 624.
