Julian Oliver Davidson painting (Nyack, New York, 1853-1894), "The Burning of the USS Congress, March 8, 1862", dramatic Civil War depiction, shows the attack and burning of the USS Congress by the CSS Virginia pictured in the background, signed and dated lower left "J.O. Davidson 92", oil on canvas, 59 x 34-1/8 in.; 20th century gold painted wood frame. Lined with Masonite, yellowing of varnish, crackle, retouch at two points at left in smoke billows, one point on right "net arm" and some small scattered points; frame with abrasions.
