Jules Franceschi studied at the Ecole de Dessin in Besancon before moving to Paris in 1841. Following a prolific career exhibiting at the Paris Salon, the sculptor was later made Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur in 1874. Franceschi produced allegories of mythological women including Young Huntress, Andromeda, Danaide, Fortune, Painting, Hebe, Jupiter and the present model Isis, all of which were exhibited at the Paris Salon between 1857 and 1894.
