NOTE

Juan Simón Gutierrez is listed as a member of the Academia de Pintura in Seville from 1664 until 1672. His oeuvre is based around three signed works and the present painting can be compared closely, both in handling and figure types, to the artist's depiction of The Virgin and Child with Augustinian Saints in the Convent de la Trinidad, Carmona (see E. Valdivieso, Pintura Barroca Sevillana, Seville 2003, reproduced p. 399, plate 377).
