The canvas has a fairly recent lining which is sound. Most of the paint surface is beautifully intact with the glazes over the flesh tones and red drapery of particular note. There is some wear to the darker reaches of the blue sky upper left and to the some of the darker areas of drapery, but no more than is to be expected for a work of this date. Inspection under Ultraviolet light shows a very milky varnish; infilling to craquelure throughout the dark background; repair to a horizontal line in the shoulder (2 cm.); a repaired patch o the left of Christ's chest (3 x 2 cm.); and smaller scattered retouchings throughout his red mantle. Offered in a gilt frame with only very small knocks.
