Notes

After leaving the Academy in Antwerp, Dupon was a regular exhibitor in the Belgian Salons, receiving the gold medal in 1891. Dupon's design style and modelling technique can be compared with his close friend Rembrandt Bugatti. In the present work, Dupon represents the triumphant St George, mounted on a horse, standing on the carcass of his vanquished foe. The dragon is presented dead, its lifeless form stretched over the rectangular base in an almost abstract manner, and its neck twisted around a spike. The present work follows in the monumental tradition of Dupon's most renowned sculptures.
