Notes

Between 1672 and 1676, De Grave travelled throughout the Southern Netherlands, accompanying the Stadholder-King William III of Orange on his campaigns against the French, and making many topographical drawings. The buildings represented seem, however, more Italianate, and it is more likely that the composition is a capriccio than a real view.
