Josie Van Gent Edell (South Carolina,1921-2007) "Basket Weavers" watercolor print signed in the plate and again in pencil by the artist lower right. Professionally framed and matted. Measures 30 1/2"x26"x1". Weight 9 pds. PROVENANCE: A Private Charleston SC Estate. Josie Van Gent Edell was a native of Amsterdam, who lived in France, Spain, South Africa, and the United States. She wass a Cum Laude graduate of Kunstoefening, Arnheim and received a five-year scholarship presented by Queen Wilhelmina. She then continued her studies at the Academy of The Hague where she received a BA & MA. Following the war, she embarked on a successful career of advertising. Josie moved to the Charleston area in the late 60's where she continued to work and live. Her style is easily recognized throughout the Southeast and the South Carolina Lowcountry. She has been honored with many coveted awards including over 117 ribbons, twice receiving "Best in Show" by the South Carolina Watercolor society and Charleston Artist Guild, as well as many Grumbacher awards.
