Other Notes: Josie Van Gent Edell was a Charleston artist known for her scenes of Charleston and portraits of African Americans. She emigrated to the Charleston area in the late 60's. Her style became recognized throughout the Southeast and the South Carolina Lowcountry. She was honored with many awards including "Best in Show" by the South Carolina Watercolor Society and the Charleston Artist Guild, as well as many Grumbacher awards.
