Uphues also produced a pendant bronze depicting Hercules releasing the arrow from his bow aimed at the Stymphalian bird. Another example of the present model was sold at Christies, London, 27 July 2010 lot 249 sold £4375.

Joseph Uphues studied under R. Begas at the Berlin Academy, and won a silver medal at the Exposition Universelle of 1900. He produced numerous public monuments in Berlin.
