The work is a close derivation, in reverse, from a work by Wouwerman found in Dresden, Gemäldegalerie Alter Meister (see B. Schumacher, Philips Wouwerman, Ghent 2006, vol. I, pp. 256-7, cat. no A216, reproduced vol. II, plate 200).

Dr. Peter Krückmann, director and keeper of paintings of the Bavarian castles, Schloss and Bettina Schwabe, head conservator of paintings of the Bavarian castles, have independently endorsed the attribution to Stephan on inspection of the work in the original.
