From Nature, Wachusett, Mass.
Signed indistinctly l.r., inscribed "...Wachusett/By J. Morvillier [sic]"
on the stretcher, inscribed "587." and stamped or inscribed "THOMPSON COLLECTION/NEW YORK, ...P. ROWELL" on the reverse.
Oil on canvas, 24 1/4 x 36 1/4 in. (61.5 x 91.5 cm), framed.
Condition: Strip lined, retouch, craquelure.

N.B. The consignor has provided the following provenance: Collection of Thomas Thompson, Boston, Massachusetts, and New York, c. 1860s; Leeds and Miner, New York, February 7, 1870, Executrix's Sale of Mr. Thomas Thompson's Extensive and Valuable Collection..., Lot 587; Private collection, Buffalo, New York. Inscriptions on the stretcher are partially obscured by the strip lining.

Condition Report

The strip lining is adhered with resin or glue. The rest of the verso has been coated with glue or similar, probably to stablize the surfce. The is a repaired/retouch vertical tear to the sky, on the right size slightly above the horizon. In addition there are some scattered dashes of retouch.
