Description

Built in 1848 at Richmond, Maine, by Thomas Jefferson Southard, the bark is portrayed approaching Castle William. Oil on canvas, 24 x 32 inches. The title inscribed in gilt lettering below the image. The reverse with original label for "J.B. Smith/ Marine Artist/ 226 South St. (Opposite the Screw Dock)."Provenance: Walter Kimball & Co., Boston; Marine Arts Gallery, Salem, Massachusetts.
