Geïllustreerd met een lam Gods in kopergravure in de tekst, met drie gravures op volle blz (waarvan één in kopie in deel 2) waaronder één gesigneerd "IRW" ofwel Hieronymus Wierix; enkele houtsneden in de tekst en initialen. De vijf eerste blz. van het tweede deel zijn fotokopieën op blauw papier, enkele marginale watervlekjes op eerste blz., enkele marginale roestvlekjes. Vol perkament uit de tijd, platten met blindgestempeld bloemornament, rug met ribben en titel in inkt, sporen van sluitlinten. (enkele lichte vlekjes op platten). Ex-libris van H. Ameloot, apotheker. 4 parts in 1 vol. in-f°, [9] + 125 + [3], [6] + 164 + [2], [4] + 50 + [1 + 1 blanco], [2] + 34 + [1 + 1 blanco] lvs. Illustated with a 3 full-page engr. mystical plates (one of which in facsimile), of which 2 by HIERONYMUS WIERIX monogrammed "J.R.W.", 8 woodcut/ engr. ills., beautiful initials. The 5 first pages of the second part are in facsimile, some marginal damp staining on the first lvs. Bound in full contemp. vellum, blind tooled ornament on the boards

Notes

Hoofdwerk van de Nederlandse ketter David Joris, geboren in Brugge uit het huwelijk van een Vlaamse koopman met een Delftse vrouw. In 1536 kreeg hij visioenen waaruit hij concludeerde dat voor hem een belangrijke rol als profeet in het verschiet lag. Hij kreeg veel aanhang in het noorden van de Nederlanden, maar ondervond ook veel weerstand en werd ontmaskerd als een valse profeet. Uiteindelijk moest hij een andere naam aannemen en vluchten naar Zwitserland. Daar werd hij enkele jaren na zijn dood pas ontmaskerd en zijn lichaam werd samen met zijn geschriften verbrand. Dat gebeurde op 13 mei 1559. Reprint van de tweede vermeerderde en herschreven '1551'-editie. De eerste editie werd gedrukt in 1542-44 in Deventer door Theodorus II de Borne. Dirck Mullem drukte deze editie van ca 1595 naar de tweede editie, gedrukt in Vianen in 1584, in opdracht van de minister Herman Herberts van Dordrecht nadat hij uit Rotterdam werd verbannen. Deze latere editie verschilt van de eerste editie: de wijzende handjes in de marges werden weggelaten; de drie grote houtgravures werden vervangen door gravures van o.a. conditions of business

1. The auction will be conducted under the supervision of Philippe Willems, Bailiff, Gistelsesteenweg 418, 8200 Brugge-Sint-Andries.

2. Payment of the Purchase Price is due immediately after the sale in cash. Payments can be done via Bancontact. The additional fee for payment by Paypal is 5% of the total amount of the invoice.

3. The buyers will pay a buyer's premium of 24 % on the last bid, including V.A.T. and fees relating to the auction. Successful LIVE ONLINE bids will be charged with an extra 3%. Eventually plus the resale tax, if applicable: 4 % for hammer prices from 2000 euros on, only for original art and if the author died less than 70 years ago.

4. In case of a dispute, the lot will immediately be called again.

5. During the exhibition of the books the candidate buyers will be able to verify the condition of the books and prints. The books and prints cannot be returned for any reason after the fall of the hammer. If the auctioneer has executed a written bid on behalf of the buyer (see section 7), the buyer has to verify the books and prints within 7 days after the fall of the hammer. After this period the books and prints cannot be returned for any reason.

6. Books designated "nc" are not collated and will be sold without guarantee even as lots of 2 or more titles, series and periodicals.

7. The auctioneer will execute written bids on behalf of those candidate buyers who are unable to attend the auction. The bids instructions have to reach the auctioneer no later than the last day before the auction. They have to state the maximum prices in euro and they should be in writing. In the event of identical bids, the earliest received will take precedence. Bidding by telephone will only be accepted for items estimated higher than 250 euros. The auctioneer cannot be held responsible for any problem due to difficulties with telephone connections. The auctioneer has the right at his absolute discretion to refuse any bid.

8. The buyers can take delivery of the books immediately after the auction or Monday and Tuesday March 9th and 10th, Groeninge 34, 8000 Bruges from 10 am till 12 am and from 2 pm until 6 pm. Or later by appointment.

9. The goods will only be shipped after payment of the full price. Risks and costs of the shipment will be born by the buyer.

10. If full payment has not been made after one month, the auctioneer can rescind the sale of the lot(s) at any other auction. All charges being at the expense of the defaulting buyer.

11. The Courts of Bruges are to have exclusive jurisdiction to settle all disputes arising in connection with all aspects of all matters or transactions to which these Conditions of Business relate or apply.
