John Young Hunter RBA (Scottish 1874-1955) Old Kilpatrick Watercolour, signed and dated 1906 38 x 49cm Note : Born 29 October 1874 in Glasgow, son of Colin Hunter, R.A. Studied at the R.A. Schools and under Sargent, Alma-Tadema and Orchardson. Exhibited at the R.A. from 1895; with his wife at the Fine Art Society from 1903 and at the Paris Salon < (Medal 1914). Moved to USA around 1914 and enjoyed considerable success as a portrait painter in New York. Joined the artist colony at Taos, New Mexico and built his own studio there. A prolific exhibitor and medal winner, his work is documented in numerous public and private collections including The National Gallery, The Tate Gallery, Walker Art Gallery, Harvard Univ, Princeton Univ, Musee de Luxembourg in Paris and The Museum of New Mexico.
