Notes

Prospective purchasers are advised that several countries prohibit the importation of property containing materials from endangered species, including but not limited to coral, ivory and tortoiseshell. Accordingly, prospective purchasers should familiarize themselves with relevant customs regulations prior to bidding if they intend to import this lot into another country.
The traditional identification of the sitter is Princess Louise Adelaïde de Bourbon, however considering the apparent age of the present sitter, an alternative identification could be Princess Adélaïde d'Orléans (1777-1847). Portraits of her are illustrated in N. Garnier-Pelle et al., Portraits des maisons royales et impériales de France et d'Europe. Les miniatures du musée Condé à Chantilly, Paris, 2007, p. 134, no. 135.
