signed with initials and dated 'JSD 1836' (on a pillar, lower left) and inscribed 'HIC JACET COLBERT' and 'SυT. EAUSTACHE' [sic] (lower centre, on flagstones) and further inscribed and dated 'Int. of Sυt Eaustache [sic]./Paris/by./J. Scarlett Davis./1836' (on the verso of the original mount)
