Notes

In 1804 Hayward went to Paris from Southampton, returning by way of the Isle of Wight, which he had previously visited in 1799. The view near Sheep Hill included in this lot could have been drawn on either of these two trips to the Isle of Wight. In August 1805 Hayward went to Dublin and Leixlip, returning to Liverpool, and in 1807 he was in Plymouth (as shown by the dated drawing of Plymouth Dock included in this lot) the West country and Cornwall. In 1810 he revisited North Wales and in 1811 he was in Devon where he visited Stonehouse, as shown by his drawing of Devils Point, and Cawsand
