Condition Report

Offered in a gesso and gilt carved wood frame. The canvas has been lined and the surface is somewhat flat. There is a thick layer of dirt and discoloured varnish overall. There a small number of scattered extant minor losses where the paint has had a history of flaking. Old retouchings can be seen in the flesh tones of sitter's neck. Examination under ultra violet light shows several campaigns of restoration. Broad areas of overpaint constitute the early restoration and the later is consists of smaller retouching to losses from flaking.
