Note:Another watercolour of Largo dated 1890 was exhibited in the 1981 Scottish Arts Council Exhibition of Pringle's work held in Charlotte Square.John Quinton Pringle was an optician by training and continued to practice throughout his working life.From 1885 however he enroled at the Glasgow School of Art where he studied under Fra Newbery.In 1891 he won a Gold Medal for Life Drawing in a National Competition held at South Kensington. He exhibited at the Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts from 1896 and subsequently at the XV Secessionist Exhibition in Vienna in 1902. A retrospective exhibition at Glasgow School of Art in 1922 created widespread interest and favourable comment in the Press.
