Description

A bust-length silhouette of a Gentleman, called Mr Fortescue, profile to the right, wearing double-breasted coat, frilled chemise, stock and cravat. Painted on plaster and bronzed, gilt-mounted on rectangular papier-mâché frame, trade label no.12 ('Double-letter') to the reverse, a later handwritten inscription reads MR FORTESCUE/ JUNE 1816; together with a further bust-length silhouette of a Boy, wearing coat, stock and cravat, painted on plaster, verre-églomisé border within rectangular papier-mâché frame, trade label no.11 ('Burnished gol') to the reverse. Oval, 79mm (3 1/8in) and 89mm (3 1/2in) high respectively (2) Provenance (for the former): The Dudley Bendall Collection.
