Description

John Lucas [1807-1874] - Puffing Billy, an early Steam engine: - signed, inscribed and dated 'Killingworth, November 22nd 1857, John Lucas' pencil and watercolour drawing, 23 x 16cm. Killingworth Colliery, in which George Stephenson worked, was the site of the pit-rail upon which Stephenson's first locomotive engine, nick-named Puffing Billy, drew coal from the pit face.
