Similar subjects have appeared on the art market most notably a work titled "The River Epte with Monet's Atelier-Boat" a 13 x 16 oil on canvas that sold at Christies on December 1 2005 as lot 39. Additionally, Harvard Museum owns a Breck entitled "Wooded Steam" an 18 x 22 oil on canvas (Accession number 1986.446). The present work is on a stretcher of French construction and its measurements indicate the standard size for a 12 figure. The stretcher sizes of the aforementioned works also conform to 6 figure and 10 figure respectively, suggesting that they share a common French subject.
