John Ernest, American 1922-1994- Untitled abstract composition; oil on canvas, signed, inscribed 'Gö' and dated 48, 54x54cm., (unframed). Provenance: The family of the artist, thence by descent. The artist John Ernest was born in Philadelphia where he studied at the Settlement School of Music and Art, 1939-1941; lived and worked in Sweden 1946-1949 and Pairs 1949-1951; settle din London in 1`951 and studied at St Martin's School of Art 1952-1956. He taught at the Bath Academy of Art, Corsham and Chelsea School of Art. The Arts Council hold two examples of his works dating from the early-mid 1960's. The inscription 'Gö' on this painting indicates 'Göteborg', painted whilst the artist resided in Sweden during the 1940's.
