He was a versatile artist who painted scenes of boats, still lives, flowers, and even dolls. However, he is particularly known for genre scenes with figures, often mothers and their children. The titles of his works ("The Tender Mother," "Fisherwomen at Schevingen," "Interior of a Dutch Farmhouse," "The Knitting Lesson," "The Blessing," etc.) reveal the everyday moments of Dutch life that he preferred to paint. Weiland was a professor at the Rotterdam Academy and was the recipient of several awards while there. His works have also been exhibited in Amsterdam, London, and Los Angeles. His son, Johannes Weiland, Jr. (1894-1976) was also a painter. In the United States, Weiland's works are in museums in Albany and Los Angeles; they are also in museum collections in Leeds and London, England, and Dordrecht, Holland.42"x59"x2". Approximate weight 18 pds.
