NOTE

Inscribed on the piece of paper are the names of the three boys; Friederich Ludwig Franz (born 1775), Friederich Karl (born 1779), and Rudolf Friederich Karl (born 1781). Like his father, Johann Heinrich's third son Rudolf went on to paint at the Mecklenberg court at Ludwigslust in eastern Germany. Ludwigslust ("Ludwig's joy") was so named by Duke Christian Ludwig II of Mecklenberg-Schwerin, and had been built by his elder brother Karl Leopold from 1724. The capital of the Duchy moved here from 1765 until 1837 when the Grand Duke Paul Friederich returned capital status to Schwerin.
