Johann Eberhard Ihle (Eßlingen a. N. 1727 - 1814 Nuremberg) Portrait of a lady in a pink robe embellished with blue ribbons, feeding a kitten, oil on canvas, 90 x 71 cm, magnificent gilded frame, (Wo) The present painting is mentioned in Thieme-Becke (1999, vol. 17/18, p. 552) and was engraved by A. L. Möglich. Provenance: for 25 years in the possession of a Munich-based merchant's family; private collection, Düsseldorf; private property, Austria Ihle, the offspring of a Württemberg-based family of painters, received his first training from his father and settled in Nuremberg in 1749, where he was granted citizenship in 1756. Ihle had been a member of the Nuremberg Academy of Painters since 1751 and became its director in 1771. He remained in office until 1811. Ihle's oeuvre embraces period from Rococo to Neo-Classicism. He numbered among the most renowned late 18th-century portraitists in Nuremberg. He depicted the poet Klopstock and many other important personalities of his time.
