Kirkimbie Crater, 2004
natural earth pigments on canvas
120 x 90 cm

Provenance: Red Rock Art: Cat. no. KP2089 Tineriba Gallery Private Collection, SA Sold with original source documentation Bush Medicine Dreaming depicts the leaves of a special plant that is used to aid in the healing process. The leaves are collected and then boiled to extract the resin which is mixed with kangaroo fat to create a paste that can be stored for up to six months in bush conditions. The medicine is used to heal cuts, wounds, bites, rashes and as an insect repellant. Gloria depicts the movement of the leaves as the desert winds sweep through the trees and as the individual leaves float to the ground. When painting this Dreaming she is paying homage to the spirit of the medicine plant in he hope that it will regenerate and increase in abundance. Gloria began painting on canvas in 1988 and held her first solo show in 1991 at the Australian National Gallery. In 1999 she won the Wynne Prize for landscape painting at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
