Jerry Malzahn was born in Arkansas and moved to Texas as a young adult. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Texas and founded the Malzahn Landscape Company.

In 1994, at the age of 48, Jerry began to devote himself to landscape painting. He experienced success quickly, collecting a first prize and a third prize at the Texas State Fair only two years later.

Ever striving to improve his craft, Jerry began to collect and study the paintings of master landscape artists as a "tool" to improve his eye and his craft. He began by collecting Texas masters, such as Julian Onderdonk, Dawson-Watson, Robert Wood, and Porfirio Salinas. He also collected works by the French Barbizon painters, the Hudson River School, the American Tonalists, and the California Impressionists.

In 2003, Jerry was selected for membership in the prestigious Salmagundi Club in New York. Jerry's Texas landscapes pay great homage to especially Porfirio Salinas and Robert Wood.
