Original canvas. The canvas appears sound. There is some light rubbing around the extreme edges of the work. There are three small pushes to the canvas, with some minor associated paint loss: one towards the top of the extreme right vertical edge, one towards the centre of the extreme right vertical edge, and one just left of centre of the extreme lower horizontal edge. These appear to have been caused by nail heads, in accordance with the artist's working method. There are some scattered lines of reticulation across the work, most apparent to the dark green pigment in the bottom right quadrant and to the dark blue pigment towards the upper left edge. There is some craquelure apparent to the right of the two figures, towards the centre of the left vertical edge, in the dark green pigment in the upper left corner, and to the mid-and dark-green pigments between the upper branches of the third tree from the left. There are several small flecks of loss towards the left of the lower horizontal edge, and some extremely minor losses to the some of the tips of the raised impasto. There is some light surface dirt and studio detritus across the work. Subject to the above, the work appears to be in good overall condition. Ultraviolet light reveals some light fluorescence to some of the pigments, thought to be inkeeping with the artist's materials. The work is presented in a simple wooden batten frame.
