Notes

At first glance, Masoero's works with paper are easily mistaken for highly textured oil paintings. However closer inspection reveals that the richness and dynamism of these works are in fact created by the light reflecting off layers of ripped or cut paper whose top surface has been torn away to expose the creamy texture beneath. Inspired by the landscape of the Yucatan and the architecture of the Mayan and Aztec sites of Central America, Masoero's three-dimensional paper reliefs represent her search for a new depth in her work using light and shadow. A graduate of Goldsmiths College, London, where she was taught by Kenneth Martin, and the Slade School, London, Masoero has exhibited widely including solo exhibitions at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London and the Towner Museum and Art Gallery, Eastbourne.
